The Team

Prof. O. Prabhakar is a retired Professor from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, in the Department of Metallurgical Engineering. After voluntarily retiring from IITM in 1998, following nearly 30 years of teaching and research in the areas of nondestructive evaluation, metallurgy, and metal casting, he taught at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, from 1998 to 2004. Presently, he is the proprietor of OPTECH, a company extending educational services and consultancy.
He visited Foundry Research at the Technical University Berlin and underwent training in Non-Destructive Testing at Bundesanstalt für Materialprüfung, Berlin, Germany, from 1970 to 1972 (including 6 months at BAM). He also worked at VPI & SU, USA, from 1980 to 1982 but was stationed at NASA Langley AFB, Hampton.
Currently stationed in Chennai, he works as a consultant to M/S SAMACO Metals and Alloys, M/S Sundaram Brake Lining, Chennai, CNDE, IITM, Chennai, and a few steel foundries. He has also published 15 multimedia educational CDs (www.ndtoptech.com). He played a major role in starting professional training courses, including ASNT Level III, at the Indian Society for Nondestructive Testing.
Dr. O. Prabhakar obtained his B.Tech and Ph.D. in Metallurgy from the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, and his M.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His primary areas of interest are nondestructive evaluation, metallurgy, and metal casting.
